Sonja Henie

Go to list
An ice-queen’s room in icy pink and grey tones, with neat skating features. The unusual biography of the Norwegian Olympic figure skating champion and Hollywood actress, Sonja Henie, inspired the décor of this room.
The daughter of a fur wholesaler, Sonja Henie received her first pair of ice skates when she was six. At 14, she was the Norwegian Skating Champion. Sonja won the gold medal for figure skating at the 1928, 1932, and 1936 Winter Olympics.

In addition to figure skating, Henie was also a ranked Norwegian tennis player after winning three championships in 1936, an excellent swimmer, an equestrienne, and a highly competent ballerina. She was an increibly popular Hollywood actress in the 40's and she was the first woman ever to receive a medal from the Norwegian government for her versatility and achievement in sports. All that power bundled into a frame that was barely 5’3” tall.
